kos’ latest hitpiece calling Sanders “delusional” is my cue to exit this place for good. I joined it over a year ago. As an African American veteran who has spent many years in Germany, I thought this site was a place to engage with other progressive minded people—a big-tent of ideas on the left.
One could have approached the split in the Democratic Party that this primary has revealed in a completely different way than kos has done—by recognizing that even the 45% of the voters that Sanders represents are integral to the party; that their standard bearer has raised critically important issues related to the reform of the Democratic Party and the electoral process; that the progressive wing cannot be ignored any longer and that the progressive issues they advocate (single-payer, end of the death penalty, real reforms of the banks, a less hawkish foreign policy) are the future of the party.
Even more than that, this campaign has presented Democrats with a historic opportunity to validate democratic socialism as a legitimate and integral part of the American political vocabulary. Sanders’ campaign has awakened the left, a force that should be harnessed, integrated, and mobilized within the Democratic Party. Fine, side with Hillary, but do it with class and with an eye for building a party that is inclusive. That is not what kos has done with his site.
Kos’ approach misses the forest from the trees. Which is fine, it’s his prerogative. Instead of recognizing that the aim of Sanders is not to derail the Democratic Party but to shift it left, the site now focuses on a full-throated character assassination of Sanders and his supporters, seeing them as interlopers, not true Democrats, and mischievously aiding Trump through their refusal to fall in line. That’s a load of bs, and my guess is kos knows it.
What a shame. The vast majority of Sanders supporters will not vote for Trump. I have been a loyal Democrat my entire life. But I won’t be so at this site.
Congrats, kos, your driving away good Democrats from your site is working.
